Sustainability
Sustainability matters – to our people, our clients and the broader community.
We believe that businesses have a responsibility to do what they can to ensure a thriving and sustainable world. We want to play our part to address the challenges facing people and the planet, without adding to them. That’s why we are putting in place a framework to embed environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into our business.
Like many businesses, Fortuna's approach to ESG is a work in progress. We recognise that fully embedding ESG into all facets of our business and our way of thinking will take years of concerted effort. But importantly, we have started making progress and are fully committed to continuous improvement, being genuine and transparent as we go.
We are excited to announce that we have just released our new ESG report for FY22. This report highlights our progress and achievements in sustainability, diversity, and corporate responsibility. Please access the report below.
We recognise the urgency of acting on climate change to ensure long-term sustainability, and we are committed to improving our environmental performance.
We are currently working on what steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint, including ways we can decrease our emissions and offset other emissions, where possible.
Some of the measures we are investigating to improve environmental performance include:
- improving our energy efficiency, and increasing the overall NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) ratings of the portfolio of buildings we manage;
- switching to renewables for our energy requirements;
- initiatives to reduce waste to landfills and increase recycling; and
- reducing our Scope 3 emissions by engaging with tenants in the buildings we manage to agree on initiatives to assist them to reduce their carbon footprint.
Tackling our emissions makes business sense too. Energy reduction activities help futureproof our assets and business operations from future carbon pricing and tenant expectation risks, demonstrating that environmental commitments need not come at the expense of business success.
We are proud to be a part of the NABERS Sustainable Portfolios Index 2022. The Index covers office building and shopping centre sustainability achievements across Energy, Water, Waste, Indoor Environment NABERS ratings and, for the first time, Carbon Neutral portfolios. The Regional Office Trust portfolio, managed by Fortuna, received a rating of 4.7 stars for Energy and 4.2 stars for Water out of a possible 6 stars.
